Vacancies available for: SIGNATURE & DYNAMICS ENGINEERS (MECH ENG CONS/LEVE 3
Job Title: Signature & Dynamics Engineers (Mech Eng Cons / Level 3) Brief: The Shock and Dynamics Group comprises specialist design engineers and mathematicians who are responsible for the design of major mounting arrangements and equipment support structures for underwater shock, noise, vibration and operational loads. The Group is also responsible for the strategies and methods to be employed for support and mounting systems throughout our ships and submarines. This requires dynamic and stress analysis to Naval standards, the generation of whole boat shock policies, shock qualification methods, shock design procedures, and design of equipment mounting systems.
The Group also conducts thermal, contract and fluid structure interaction analysis and creates bespoke design solutions. This includes Resiliently Mounted Decks in submarines with the concept development and qualification of modules and large machinery rafts.
Our Engineers make extensive use of linear, elastic/plastic, static/dynamic finite element analysis methods using PATRAN and ABAQUS to access the integrity of submarine and surface ship structural elements. In addition these computer prograns in conjunction with special in-house software are used to dynamic shock, vibration and thermal analysis.
The shock analysis now uses Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) FE analysis to model boat structures in the water with explosion initiated pressure wave excitation in the time domain.
This has enabled a more refined design approach to high frequency shock and low frequency gas bubble excitation (whipping)
